Calling all students who have a growing passion for welding and the drive to become of the industry’s elite. High school seniors are invited to participate in AEWA’s annual scholarship competition. More information is coming soon so check back.
AEWA Welding Competition Scholarship Policy
AEWA hosts a Welding Competition each year for current high school seniors. All AEWA Welding Competition participants receive a tuition scholarship. Additional scholarships are awarded for the competition winners. AEWA also awards competition scholarships each year to current high school seniors at various other competitions. A student may only use ONE (1) AEWA Welding Competition
Scholarship.
NOTE: If a student competes at multiple competitions and receives multiple AEWA scholarship awards, the student can select one scholarship award to use toward their tuition bill. AEWA scholarships can be applied to tuition charges only and cannot be used for materials fees or tools fees.
AEWA scholarships are non-transferrable and have the following expiration deadlines. A student must enroll* within 12 months of their high school graduation date and begin** an AEWA program within 18 months of their high school graduation date.
*Enroll means a student must have completed an enrollment form, paid the $100 non-refundable application fee and the $150 refundable tuition deposit, and reserved their spot for a future start date.
**Begin means that a student starts attending classes in an AEWA program of study.
Example:
A student competes at an March 2023 competition.
They will graduate from high school in May of 2023.
They must enroll by the April 2024 start date.
They must begin a program by the October 2024 start date.
Judges
Each weld will be scored by a panel of judges, including three Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) certified through the American Welding Society. Competitors must make a valid attempt to complete the competition weld according to the coupon blueprint provided to be eligible for a scholarship. Round 1
- Sign In: 8:30am – 9:00am
- Competition Time: 9:00am – 10:00am
Round 2
- Sign In: 9:45am – 10:15am
- Competition Time: 10:15am – 11:15am
Round 3
- Sign In: 11:45am – 12:15pm
- Competition Time: 12:15pm – 1:15pm
Round 4
- Sign In: 1:00pm – 1:30pm
- Competition Time: 1:30pm – 2:30pm
Awards ceremony to follow at approximately 3:00pm.
The scholarship awards are:
- 1st place: $20,000
- 2nd place $16,000
- 3rd place: $8,000
- 4th place: $4,000
